Vietnam Veteran wins local phase of national writing competition

Carl Burns, a Vietnam Veteran who lives in Manalapan, won first place in the New Jersey Veterans Administration local phase of the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition. His essay, “Hangar Crew,” tells the story of a group of Veterans who came together to restore a Bell-UH-1D helicopter (“Huey”), left in a field in New Jersey for 20 years, forgotten by time. Veteran Oral History Interview

The Making History Project is pleased to announce that it will be conducting an oral history interview of a World War II Veteran from the 10th Armored Division on August 22, 2015 in Webster, MA.

This will be the first trip to Massachusetts for an oral history interview. Previously, the Making History Project has conducted interviews in France, Peru, Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Stay tuned for more details, including photos and eventually a partial clip of the interview.  Meanwhile we are busy processing all the other previously conducted interviews and hope to upload some excerpts soon.

If you are or know of a Veteran who is or may be interested in giving an oral history interview, please be sure to reach out to us to discuss how we can help you.  This is a non-profit enterprise so there is no cost to the Veteran although donations are welcome to defray travel and processing costs.  We work hard to preserve Veteran’s memories and stories while creating an important keepsake for family members.  At the same time, the Making History Project preserves the Veteran oral history interview for future generations and researchers when we share the same with world-renowned archives.  Please contact us or pass on our information to a Veteran today!
