OUR MISSION STATEMENT AND OBJECTIVE
“Preserving Veterans’ Stories”
As a non-profit organization, the mission of the Making History Project is to preserve Veterans’ stories. We do this because the sacrifices of Veterans on behalf of our country are undeniable. This includes being away from family and friends while missing important life moments to the loss of limb or even life. In perfect perspective, all gave some, some gave all.
Veterans’ stories are preserved through in-person video oral history interviews. An oral history interview will cover the Veteran’s life and important memories from his or her military service. One important research topic for the Making History Project is to document the effects of combat trauma on Veterans across the various generations and conflicts. In all cases, Veterans are free to discuss their military service in any order or way that they wish. No two stories are ever the same. And no contribution in the military is too small or unworthy of preserving.
Preservation of the Veteran’s story is accomplished by first giving the Veteran and his or her family a copy of the interview on a DVD. Afterward, the interview is then sent to the United States Library of Congress and the University of Florida Samuel Proctor Oral History Program where it is permanently archived. Notably, by archiving the interview in such a manner, future generations will be able to view the oral history interview directly from the Library of Congress or the University of Florida. In this way, the Making History Project is doing its part to leave no Veteran behind.
The Making History Project is a Florida non-profit organization and our Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of individuals committed to Veterans and history. To our knowledge, there are few if any such organizations in the State of Florida dedicated to preserving Veteran stories through oral history interviews. The Making History Project was started to address this perceived void and to give back to those who gave so much for us.
We hope you agree with our mission statement and will support the Making History Project. Support can be your time by volunteering, donations of video and audio recording equipment so additional interns can secure interviews, or through your generous financial contributions. All donations are graciously accepted as no level of support for this important mission is too small.
