Making History Summer Update

making history summer update

Just a brief Making History summer update on our Veteran oral history project. Summer started off with a lot of activity culminating in the Making History Project trip to Normandy, France. Since that debrief, the Intern Team has been very busy working on editing all prior Veteran oral history interviews. The goal is to improve the sound, color, and formatting of the interviews before they are archived. This has been a massive project and we cannot wait to see the final results.

Archiving and Access to Oral History Interviews

The expectation is the final edits for all Veteran oral history interviews should be completed within a few months. From there, it is a matter of organizing all the materials and sending them off to the archives. The archives include the U.S. Library of Congress and the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program at the University of Florida. Likewise, we cannot wait until we can populate our YouTube Channel with these wonderful interviews. The goal has always been to enhance access so as many people can see these fantastic stories as possible.

Golden Brigade Reunion

The Making History Project will remain busy for the upcoming Fall. During the first week of September, we will attend the reunion of the Golden Brigade of the 82nd Airborne in Columbus, Georgia. The Golden Brigade is comprised of paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne who served in Viet Nam. The Golden Brigade has partnered with the Making History Project to conduct oral history interviews during the Reunion. We are looking forward to this incredible opportunity to preserve these stories.

Special Projects

As our final Making History summer update, we continue to schedule additional Veteran oral history interviews to support our mission to leave no Veteran behind. Likewise, we are also planning other projects for the Fall. One such project includes a possible education event related to Veterans Day. The other project is the creation of a creative short documentary video piece that highlights the costs that our Veterans bear from combat trauma. This documentary will be based on actual interview footage from our oral history interviews.

Enjoy the final days of summer and stay tuned.
